The whole idea of Cyclists 4 Lyons is to bring together cyclists and their resources to help the community of Lyons rebuild after the flood of 2013. This day-long fundraising event will be put on by Cyclists 4 Community, an organization dedicated to furthering this cause throughout Boulder County. Participants will have several rides to choose from: a road ride, a mountain bike ride and one of two cruiser rides around town.
“As we reach the one-year anniversary of the devastating floods all of the memories are coming back to the surface for those that were affected,” says event organizer Russell Chandler. “Many are still not able to get back in their homes or are digging out from financial hardship.” The town of Lyons has been a great supporter of all kinds of cycling, Chandler adds, and his group is excited to play a part in the commemoration while helping rebuild.
Along with bike rides, participants can enjoy great food and a beer tent, an expo, a kids area and live music throughout the day. Governor John Hickenlooper and Senators Bennett and Udall will speak, and the evening will close with a concert by local favorite, the Infamous Stringdusters, who will kick off their set at 6 p.m.
This community was hit hard by the floods of September 2013, and continues to be impacted by the aftermath, with many unmet needs. There are over 200 displaced residents and a considerable amount of damage to roads, bridges, parks and other facilities.
