KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — An 11-year-old who got his bike stolen while he was playing kickball got a big surprise from a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer.

When Percy reported his bike had been stolen, Ronald Maynard spent the day looking for it. When he couldn’t find it, he bought the child a new one.

Now, the story of Maynard and Percy is being featured on the department’s Facebook page.

Recent news stories out of Detroit and Traverse City have detailed how officers used their own money to buy car seats for low-income drivers instead of writing tickets for violations of the child restraint law.
