Moving our community to read
What is orange, has three wheels, carries hundreds of books and makes people smile? It’s the Pima County Public Library’s Bookbike. Filled with library cards, donated books and information about bike routes, bike safety classes and literacy programs throughout our community, the Bookbike is a “people magnet” wherever it goes. Kids love to see the large orange wooden box unfold and transform into bookshelves right before their eyes. Adults light up when they discover a copy of a favorite book from their childhood or a novel that sparks their interests.
What makes the Bookbike special is that you don’t need a library card to get these books, and you never have to return them. They’re absolutely free, and yours to keep.
Every month the Bookbike is out and about in our community visiting places such as Armory Park Senior Center, Casa Maria Soup Kitchen and Wingspan’s Eon Youth Group. So the next time you spot the three-wheeler bike surrounded by books, curious people and smiling faces, come on by.
Visit Library.Pima.gov or call the library at 520-791-4010 to find out where the Bookbike will be next or to volunteer.
