Rochelle and Erick Geryol peddle cycling, craft beer and community
Owners of Boulders on Broadway bar and grill, Rochelle and Erick Geryol were honored with the 2015 Tempe Bike Hero Award. Each year this award recognizes individuals and organizations that have committed to increasing awareness and accessibility of bicycling as a viable transportation option. Not only do Rochelle and Erick ride bikes regularly, they have also created a business that supports and encourages bicycling in the community, and are helping Tempe to have one of the highest percentages of bicycle commuters in the country. The Geryols explain: “We love food and craft beer, but most of all we love cycling and bringing community together. It is these passions that resulted in Boulders on Broadway becoming a bike-friendly restaurant.” The restaurant serves up tasty food, plus 30 draft beers and 70-plus bottles of craft beer. “Boulders on Broadway was the original bike restaurant and bar in Tempe not because it was some kind of ‘concept’ but because the Geryols believe in bike riding as the best way to get around,” said Ryan Guzy, who nominated the Geryols for the award. “From the first day they opened Boulders, they have always encouraged people to bring their bikes inside.”Boulders’ indoor bike parking includes bike pumps and basic tools, and they provide free bike lights to cyclists who stay past dark and don’t have a light of their own.
